These base prices include our specialist cleaning process and a professional hand-applied Basic Wax Finish (Wax 1). Alternative wax finishes can be selected for an additional charge.
Wax Jackets Cleaned does not simply apply fresh wax over dirt, odours or old contamination. Our standard service cleans the garment inside and outside before it is professionally re-waxed.
Wax Jackets Cleaned operates a strict no repair-only, no clean-only and no wax-only policy. Repairs and alterations are carried out as part of the complete cleaning and re-waxing service.

Five professional wax finishes
The final appearance and feel depend on the jacket’s fabric, age, colour, previous treatments and condition. No two wax jackets react in exactly the same way.
Basic Wax Finish
A lower-residue finish with little or no oily or sticky surface feel, depending on the garment. It provides a reasonable level of water resistance and is included in the base price.
Silk-Oil Wax Finish
Our most popular traditional-style finish. It has a slightly oily or tacky feel at first, which normally settles after wear, and offers a strong water-resistant finish for outdoor use.
Fashion Wax Finish
A darker, waxed appearance with less surface oiliness than a traditional finish. It is particularly suited to modern garments where a smart appearance is preferred.
Heavy Wax Finish
A substantially heavier and more oily wax application for garments used mainly outdoors. It provides the closest practical result to a highly water-resistant finish, but it will feel noticeably stickier than the other options.
Dry Wax Finish
A dry-to-the-touch finish designed to retain water and stain resistance without the traditional wet feel. Dry wax naturally develops a cracked, worn or antique character with use.
Wax makes fabric darker and all dressings can carry a mild paraffin-type smell. Every finish is applied by hand, then the garment is placed in our specialist hot room for approximately 48 hours to help the dressing soak evenly into the fabric and reduce the surface stickiness.

1Estimates and quotations
We do not give estimates or quotations over the telephone. We can provide a confirmed quotation only after we have physically inspected the garment.
You may email photographs to waxit@waxjacketscleaned.co.uk and we will try to provide a rough estimate where possible. A photograph-based estimate is not a final quotation and may change once the garment has been examined.
2Stains and cleaning limitations
Not every stain can be removed. Our cleaning procedure is deliberately gentle so that we can obtain the best possible result without damaging the garment.
Most garments clean extremely well. However, some ingrained marks, paint, black marks, staining or permanent colour changes may remain visible after cleaning.
3What “cleaned” means
“Cleaned” means that we will make the garment as clean as reasonably possible using our specialist gentle process. The item will be returned clean, professionally hand re-waxed and, most importantly, fully wearable.
Your garment will not be returned looking brand new. Age, wear, fading, previous damage and the character of the original fabric will remain part of the garment.
4Water resistance and waterproofing
We do not guarantee that a jacket, coat or pair of trousers will be 100% waterproof after reproofing. No waxed cotton garment can be guaranteed to become completely waterproof.
Tell us how you intend to use the garment and we will endeavour to achieve the most suitable water-resistant finish possible for its fabric, construction, age and condition.
5Colour and appearance changes
Some garments will change colour slightly and others may change dramatically. Wax dressing is neutral and does not contain coloured dye, but applying wax normally makes the fabric look darker.
Special factory-applied finishes on some modern waxed-cotton garments cannot always be replicated. The final colour and appearance depend on the original material and its previous treatment.
6Wax transfer and indoor use
Wax jackets are outdoor garments. After cleaning and re-waxing, the dressing may transfer onto other materials. Care should therefore be taken when wearing a newly re-waxed garment indoors or in a motor vehicle, and when placing it against furniture or other fabrics.
7Surface feel and settling
Some garments will feel stickier or oilier than others after the process. This depends on the selected wax finish, the fabric and the amount of dressing the garment absorbs.
The surface feel normally settles after a short period of wear. Heavy Wax is intentionally more oily and sticky than the other available finishes.
8Turnaround time
Please allow up to 4 weeks from the date Wax Jackets Cleaned receives your item for the requested work to be completed and the garment returned.
Particularly extensive repairs, unusual restoration work or circumstances outside our control may require additional time. We will contact you where a significant delay is expected.
9Postage and delivery responsibility
Send garments using a suitable tracked or signed-for service. We must be able to sign for the parcel as proof of delivery. Wax Jackets Cleaned cannot accept responsibility for an incoming item that is lost in transit.
Standard return delivery is uninsured. Wax Jackets Cleaned cannot accept responsibility for items lost, stolen or misdelivered by the courier on return. Optional additional insurance is subject to the courier’s restrictions, terms and claims procedure and does not guarantee that a claim will succeed.
10Wax-finish expectations
No guarantee can be given regarding the exact final feel, appearance, colour, smell, stickiness or water-repellent performance of a particular wax finish. No two wax jackets are identical and different fabrics can react differently to the same treatment.
Every wax finish is applied by hand. The garment is then placed in our specialist hot room for approximately 48 hours to encourage the dressing to soak evenly into the material and to reduce the surface stickiness.
