Sustainability – What is it?

Sustainability means living life to the fullest without compromising future generations’ ability to do so. It respects the interconnectedness of all life and acknowledges the responsibility that each person has to consider the effects that their actions have on other life forms, both living and to be born.

All the major manufacturers of waxed cotton garments are all guilty of following the same principle, “all wax cotton garments have a limited lifespan”.

But here at Wax Jackets Cleaned, we have the solution!

Contrary to popular belief, the fashion industry accounts for much of the planet’s waste, ranking at the second most pollution industries!

The video clips below are from a documentary, “Fashion’s Dirty Secrets”, is aimed at forwarding this knowledge onto the general public, perhaps in an attempt to sway them from adding to the pollution by keeping their clothes for longer.

Stacey Dooley went on an adventure to learn more about the effects that cotton production have around the globe. You can watch this small clip here, but the full documentary should be available on BBC iPlayer for viewing.

The amount of cotton that we consume as humanity is frankly, rather frightening!

In the aforementioned documentary, we learn that it can take as much as 15,000 litres of water to grow the necessary amount of cotton for a single pair of jeans.

ONE SINGLE PAIR.

A small snippet of the documentary, seen below, informs viewers that the irrigation needed to saturate the cotton local supply is so demanding, one of the rivers,
the Amu Darya, was required to be diverted to keep up with the mass need for water.

As a result of this, the river is now gone…
Completely dry and barren, save for a few camels here and there.
